Release Notes

This version is light on new features; however, there are breaking changes that were introduced, so a new major version was in order.

Breaking Changes
  • StringSchema functionality was overhauled.
  • StringFixed and Quoted functionality saw overloads removed from the API in favor of optional parameters. Although optional parameters can cause issues of their own, the clarity provided by forcing consumers to see the default values outweighs this negative in my opinion. Removing the overloads also reduced the surface area of the API and simplified documentation.

Other Refactors
  • Because of the new StringRowWrapper and StringFieldWrapper functionality discussed below, some renaming of parameters and variables was prudent. In particular, most uses of the term 'column' were changed to the more appropriate term 'field'. All code and documentation was reviewed to insure that both terms are now used consistently and correctly. 'Column' refers to the schematic concept. 'Field' refers to an actual value in a 'column' of a 'row'.

New Functionality
  • StringRowWrapper and StringFieldWrapper classes have been added to allow for named column access to string[] results of Split operations. StringFieldWrapper has also been given explicit conversion operators analogous to those on System.Xml.Linq.XElement. Overall this allows for syntax such as: int someColumnField = (int)rowWrapper["SomeColumnName"];
